Spring Break Plans

It is the time of year every student has been waiting for since early January. After a long, cold winter, the sun is finally starting to shine and spring break has officially made its way to our door.

Spring break is a great time to relax from school and take a break after an intense week of midterms and everything that comes each semester.

Generally, a lot people see this break as a good time to head to the beach to get a nice tan and relax. Others find it an ideal time to hit the slopes before summer’s arrival. It is almost as if vacations to idyllic places have become synonymous with spring break.

As much as every student would love to bask in the sun on a Florida beach while reading a book or spend the day taking on every slope in Colorado, that is not the case for some students.

Senior Andy Oleson’s spring break will consist of Army training and running through stimulated missions in South Dakota.

Nate Rusk, senior, and Casey Roberts, freshman, will both be spending spring break at their homes hanging out with friends and family.

After much consideration as to whether he should spend his spring break at the beach in Padre Island, Stephen Luttenburg, junior, decided he to stay home in Tulsa and hang out with his friends and family as well.

Kristen Kelley, junior, said she will be driving to Branson for part of the break to watch the mens basketball team perform in the NAIA national tournament. After that, she will travel to Oklahoma City with her mom to visit family.

Assistant Vice President for Student Development Ben Rotz is simply going to stay in Bartlesville and work on homework for graduate school.

Those not doing anything adventuresome or visiting any cool vacation spots for spring break are not alone.

Creating fun with friends and family can be just as great, if not better, than the mountains of Colorado or the sandy shores of Florida.

Ok, ok, that may be a pretty bold statement. But never underestimate the power of a quick Google search.

Anyone at home with nothing to do can Google their home town’s online event calendar. Enjoy a concert, theatrical play or some type of community gathering going on that very night!

Go to a church’s web site and look at the events calendar for something fun. Churches are always having day-to-day activities for anyone to enjoy.
There is no better time than now to experience one of those infamous bingo gatherings! Who knows? It may be addictive!

The internet is also full of out-of –the-box ideas. A good search of options increases the liklihood of stumbling upon something that strikes the fancy.

An article on TheDepauw.com titled, “Top 10: Things you can do over spring break without going anywhere,” gives spontaneous ideas such as picking a nice day to drive around listening to favorite music or watching an entire season of a favorite TV show on DVD.

An article in Teenadvice.about.com <http://Teenadvice.about.com/> gives simple, easy ideas such as making coffee drinks, visiting a museum, having a board game night, playing tennis at a public park, baking cookies or going for a bike ride.

Concordy.com has an article giving humorous suggestions such as going tanning to validate a false trip to the Bahamas over the break or creeping on Facebook pages.

Whatever the activity, use the time wisely because in just a week school will be back in gear and going full throttle until the end of the semester.

Catch up with old friends and spend some time with family.

Grab friends from school and carpool to Branson to watch the basketball team chase its victory.

Get creative and make the most of the week without obligations.

Who really needs the beach or the mountains to enjoy spring break?
