Library Policies

The Oklahoma Wesleyan University Library provides books, periodicals, audiovisual materials and equipment, and other items for the Oklahoma Wesleyan University campus. In order to keep an accurate record of these materials and equipment, the following rules govern their usage.

REGULAR CIRCULATING BOOKS AND MATERIALS

Circulating books and materials may be checked out for a period of two weeks, with an additional one week grace period. (No grace period is allowed for reserve books.) If materials are kept overdue beyond the grace period, a fine of 15 cents per day will be assessed retroactive to the first day overdue (including the grace period). Materials not returned by the end of the semester will be considered lost. The library will submit a bill to the Business Office charging the student’s account as follows:

  • $30.00 replaces the item (or cost of item if higher)
  • $10.00 handling charge

If the lost item is found and returned, the replacement fee will be canceled; however, a fine of 15 cents per day will be charged for each day the item was overdue to a maximum fine of $15.00 plus the $10.00 handling charge.

RENEWALS

Library materials may be renewed no more than twice. If a student is not finished after two renewals, materials must be returned to the stacks for a minimum of three days before they may be checked out again. Books and materials must be brought to the library to be renewed.

RESERVE MATERIALS

Reserve materials may be checked out according to the time limits placed on each item by the faculty member placing the item on reserve. The following fines will be charged for overdue reserve materials with no grace period allowed:

  • $1.00 per day for materials with a time limit designation.

Charges for xerox materials will be a minimum of 50¢ per item (even if it is one page one day overdue) to a maximum of 20¢ per page when the rates listed above are applied. Lost reserve materials will be handled the same as lost circulating materials with reserve materials fines applicable. A student may not check out more than two reserve items per class at the same time.

PERIODICALS

The library houses periodicals in three formats: bound volumes, microfiche, and individual issues. In addition, many periodical articles are also available on the Library’s paid subscription databases. These databases are accessible online from any Internet computer on the campus network. If trying to access the databases from off campus, please contact the library for specific instructions for logging into the databases. Periodicals may be checked out of the library for a period of three days, with fines being the same as for Reserves ($1.00 per periodical per day). A copy machine is available to make copies of articles.

UNAUTHORIZED REMOVAL OF MATERIALS FROM THE LIBRARY

Any student found in possession of any materials (reference books, periodicals, etc.) or equipment that has not been properly checked out will be fined a minimum of $10.00 but not more than $50.00 upon the immediate return of the materials. Materials not returned or damaged and mutilated materials will have fines assessed commensurate with the cost of repair or replacement.

AUDIOVISUAL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

Audiovisual materials include videos, cassette tapes, DVDs, CDs, and other materials. Audiovisual equipment includes slide projectors, overhead projectors, tape player/recorders, and other equipment. Each piece of audiovisual material or audiovisual equipment may be checked out for a specified amount of time. Overdue charges will be the same as for reserve materials.

LIBRARY SERVICES

Laminating:

Laminating may be requested at the Library for a small fee. Fees may be paid by the individual or charged to a division. Please allow at least two business days for laminating to be completed.

Video Dubbing:

Video dubbing is available through the Library. Please bring a blank video if wanting recordings transferred from a small video tape. Please allow at least two business days for video dubbing to be completed.

Video Checkout:

Students are allowed to check out videos if they have received written permission from a professor. Students may check videos out for three days. Overdue fines will be the same as reserve materials.

RECALL OF LIBRARY MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

The library reserves the right to recall any item that needs to be returned and placed on reserve upon notification (in writing, by phone, or otherwise) We request that recalled items be returned as soon as possible, even though the item is not yet due. Failure to comply will necessitate the assessment of a fine according to the reserve materials schedule of fines.

BORROWER RESPONSIBILITIES

Returning library materials on time will be the responsibility of the borrower, not the responsibility of the library. The library staff will send overdue notices whenever time permits, will be sent as a courtesy of the library, not because the library is obligated to do so.

COMMUNITY BORROWERS

We welcome all members of the Bartlesville community to use the library resources in house for research and study; however, because of specific agreements with vendors and other libraries, off campus access is not available to community borrowers for the following services:

1. Database Usage
2. Interlibrary Loan

A $25 one-time processing fee will be charged to community borrowers who wish to check out books. Five items may be checked out at one time. Community borrowers will be subject to all the library’s policies, including returning materials on time and paying appropriate fines when items become overdue.

WE WANT TO SERVE YOU!

The library staff is eager to help you get the most from your library. The student assistants are trained to help with routine library services, but additional, more thorough assistance should be directed to the professional staff.
